Our Overview.

Paul McCartney formed ‘Wings’ in 1971, following his second solo album ‘Ram’. His first band since the break-up of The Beatles, issued it’s first album ‘Wings Wild Life’ in late 1971 before heading out on the short ‘University Tour’ in the New Year. A European tour followed later in that year. Three singles were issued in ‘72, two of which made the UK Top 10: “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and “Hi Hi Hi”. Sessions for the bands second album continued throughout the year and the original plan was to make a double album.

EMI had other ideas, and considering the first album got a lukewarm reception and sales to match, they were non-committal to a double record and McCartney was forced to cut it down to a single album. However, the single released ahead of the album “My Love” was a Top 10 hit and the resultant record restored some of Macca’s commercial standing. It helped that the record was billed as ‘Paul McCartney & Wings’ as would his next album, the sales busting ‘Band On The Run’.

The original double album concept is reconstructed as part of this new deluxe edition of the album which has been out of print on CD for nearly ten years.
