It was clear that after George Harrison’s untimely death from cancer in 2001, his friends would honour the former Beatle with some sort of event. That occurred a year later when a star studded cast entertained several thousand lucky fans at the Royal Albert Hall. Organised by George’s wife Olivia and son Dhani and with musical direction from Eric Clapton and Jeff Lynne, the Concert was a rousing success and led a year later to the release of an album and film of the event. All the profits from the project went to the Material World Charitable Foundation, originally set up by George.
Unavailable for several years, ‘Concert For George’ is back to coincide with what would be his 75th birthday (25th February). The film is now available on Blu-ray for the first time and also making a debut appearance is the whole unedited audio on vinyl. It features tracks not on CD (due to time restraints) and it is on four slabs of the black stuff with one of the sides etched.
